PUBLIC RECORDS

Records, revisions and status.

What should be recorded

Significant theory, software, policy, design and research work should be assigned a reference, dated, versioned and preserved. Where a correction is substantive, the prior version should remain identifiable rather than silently disappearing.

Core status labels

Working draft

Incomplete or under active development.

Public record

Published so the development can be inspected.

Superseded

Replaced by a later version but retained for chronology.

Unsupported / withdrawn

No longer relied upon because evidence or review changed the position.
